I got my BS in medical microbiology in 1982, just when genetic engineering was ramping up. I got interested in cloning and sequenceing genes, studying microbial (and macrobiotic) evolution and other things related to DNA. I worked at GenBank, and then went on for my PhD is molecular genetics. I am now working on AIDS vaccine design.
