I make my own and would recommend it to anyone. It's easy and lacks all the unnecessary "fillers" or fake sugars that store bought yogurts have. All you need is your choice of milk (whole, 2% etc), a yogurt culture (plain yogurt, small cup full) and what ever else you choose to flavor it with (berry's, maple syrup (my favorite), sweetened condensed milk). You can sweeten with Agave nectar or honey if you'd like a sweeter yogurt. Then place in containers. Then follow the directions as follows. http://biology.clc.uc.edu/Fankhauser/Cheese/yogurt_making/YOGURT2000.htm#Procedure_with_Illustrations or just put in your yogurt maker and turn it on. The consistency may be slightly different from the store bought... more smooth and creamy. Less thick. ENJOY! You'll never by store bought again!

NOVOBIOCIN (5 mg) Disk Code: NB- 30 Resistant (zone size, <16 mm)
Susceptible (zone size, >16 mm) Novobiocin is effective antistaphylococcal agent used in the treatment of MRSA[22]. It is also active against Staphylococcus epidermidis and may be used to differentiate from the other coagulase-negative Staphylococcus saprophyticus, which is resistant to novobiocin, in culture.

The Optochin Test
Optochin a quinine derivative, has a detergent-like action and causes selective lysis of pneumococci. A sterile disk impregnated with optochin is placed on the first sector of an isolation plate before incubation. A zone of inhibition (area with no growth) of 14 mm. or more in diameter will be seen around the disk after incubation if the organism is Streptococcus pneumoniae. Other alpha-hemolytic streptococci are resistant to (not killed by) optochin. Their colonies will thus grow right up to the disk of optochin or have zones of inhibition less than 14 mm. in diameter. |

I have heard the question over and over why do we have to wiki? Well it's simple it is a great aid to help you learn the subject. If you have ever taken notes on paper after reading the assigned chapters it would be know difference to just use the wiki as your notes. You can add, type, change content to be more accurate and you dont have to waste a piece a paper. To me learning is easy if I don't just have to read a book. If you are now asking yourself why Microbiology?? If your answer is just because it is a general requirement, then you are not seeing the full picture. Microbiology applies to everything. If you are a nursing student, how many perfectly healthy adults go the doctor's office or hospital? Last time I checked I saw more ill patients then healthy ones. Without bacteria or viruses then why would we need nurses or doctors, there would be no illness to diagnosis or treat. So if you are pressed on time like the whole world is then just spend at least 20 minutes on the site, you never know it could turn out to be something more then another assignment.
